Our Story
In March of 2021, Oliver Tuff, a student at New Canaan High School, created Feeding 500 alongside co-founders Robbie Hellmann, Jonathan Yoo, and Andrew Nolan as a way to give high schoolers in Fairfield county additional opportunities to support their surrounding communities through volunteerism. Feeding 500 raises money and food donations which go directly towards feeding the homeless who come through Open Doors, a housing and homeless service organization in Norwalk, CT, which is committed to a unique method of preventing future homelessness and guiding the current homeless toward income stability and affordable housing. In the short time since its foundation, Feeding 500 has become the fastest growing youth charity in Fairfield county, expanding to include 110+ members across chapters in Darien, Wilton, New Canaan, Westport, Norwalk (Brien McMahon), Greenwich and Larchmont (NY). The organization has raised more than $160,000 in funds and food to feed the homeless, receiving recognition from state figures including CT Senator Richard Blumenthal, CT Congressional Representative Jim Himes, Governor Ned Lamont, and CT Attorney General William Tong. As Feeding 500 continues to thrive and expand, our mission remains the same: For self-driven student leaders to empower one another towards generosity, creating a better future for local communities.
